The Chenab Bridge Story : Exploring the making of  the World’s Highest Railway Bridge 

IIT Palakkad organized Institute Colloquium, featuring an inspiring and technically enriching talk by Prof. Madhavi Latha Gali, Professor of Civil Engineering and Chair of the Centre for Sustainable Technologies at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.

Prof. Madhavi Latha took the audience on an extraordinary journey through the conception, design, and construction of the Chenab Railway Bridge, the world’s highest railway bridge and a true marvel of modern engineering. She detailed the formidable challenges posed by the bridge’s location and explained how innovative engineering strategies and on-site adaptability helped overcome them.

With over 17 years of involvement as the primary geotechnical consultant for the project, Prof. Madhavi Latha offered deep insights into the delicate interplay between design, terrain and technology – a blend of vision and perseverance that turned India’s century-old dream of running a train between Jammu and Srinagar into reality.
