Be the Change; Let’s Keep Our Surroundings Clean Together
IIT Palakkad hosted a series of impactful events promoting cleanliness and sustainability on the campus to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti. As part of the Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivirs or Dignity Camps, Dr. Rakhee E. P., Assistant Professor at Ahalia Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital, engaged with staff members, emphasizing the importance of sanitation workers’ safety and dignity. This initiative, under “Swachhata Hi Seva” and “Dignity Camps”, aims to enhance awareness about the well-being of our sanitation workers, fostering a culture of respect and care.
Students took the Swachhta Pledge, followed by a street play and a graceful dance performance, all centred on the importance of cleanliness. The NSS volunteers successfully placed dustbins mounted on metallic stands in the outdoor areas of the campus; it was created by the students in the Central Mechanic Workshop. A creative Waste to Art competition showcased innovative ways to transform waste materials into art, a sale of LED bulbs created by the mothers of students from GVHSS Chittur and eco-friendly paper pens made by a local entrepreneur were a highlight. The debate competition sparked thought-provoking discussions on social and environmental issues.
