Curtains down on the General ChampionShip Mega Sports Gala of IIT Palakkad
When the Starwalt Rhinos raised the first-ever General Championship trophy, it marked a historic moment for IIT Palakkad. In the spirit of sportsmanship, the institute was divided into 8 teams: B.Tech students were split into four teams representing each year - Mighty Lions (first year), Savage Sharks (second year), Stealthy Panthers (third year), and Wild Wolves (fourth year). Meanwhile, MSC and MS students formed the Brave Bulls, MTECH students became the Ferocious Tigers, staff and faculty united as the Majestic Eagles, and PhD students stood alone as the Stalwart Rhinos. With a total of 511 participants competing across 10 thrilling events, the campus has buzzed with excitement since March 1.
The intense matches, spanning athletics, basketball, volleyball, cricket, football, badminton, chess, and table tennis, kicked off on March 1, infusing Palakkad with even more energy. The upcoming years will witness the addition of more events to this exciting lineup. We were honored to host distinguished sports figures throughout the program. The opening ceremony featured Ms. P U Chitra, a renowned athlete who has represented India in various international athletic championships. She emphasized the importance of sports for a healthy lifestyle. Director Prof. A Seshadri Sekhar echoed the sentiment, stressing the significance of active participation in sports for everyone's well-being. The closing ceremony, held on the 17th, was graced by the presence of Rajinder Singh Rahelu, an Indian Paralympic powerlifter and Arjuna Awardee. Mr. Rahelu congratulated the winners and stressed the significance of participation over victory.
