Chau Dance Performance Organised by SPIC MACAY Unveils the Tale of Mahishasura Mardini
The Student Chapter of The Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) at IIT Palakkad organized an enthralling Chau dance performance by Shri. Tarapada Rajak and his team on 16 February 2024. Chau dance, a captivating Indian tribal martial art form, is popular in the states of Odisha, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. This art form is typically associated with the Chait Parab festival celebrated around April/May. The performers wore colorful masks to depict various characters and presented the narrative of Mahishasura Mardini. The whole show was accompanied by a diverse ensemble of drums, including dhol, dhumsa, and kharka.
