Dr. V P Joy IAS visits IIT Palakkad
Enriching and invaluable are the two words that best describe Dr. Joy’s presence on campus. A range of topics varying from evolution, spirituality, immunology, and astronomy to knowledge, wisdom, and psychology was discussed in length, all underscoring the need of mastering a particular domain and conquering knowledge.
It was indeed a momentous occasion for IIT Palakkad to host Dr. V P Joy IAS, Chief Secretary to the Government of Kerala. During his interaction with students, he urged students to think holistically to get a direction and put their knowledge in the right direction for sustainable and constructive purposes. “ Taking the right direction is more important than magnitude; this is applicable not only in vectors and tensor analysis. It is applicable in human life as well, dimensions of direction to what we acquire as knowledge is important. Knowledge or information is magnitude. Direction is connective. It is the opposite of reduction. When someone adds direction to a thought process, integration happens” added Dr. Joy.
The top administrator of the state graciously conveyed a different perspective on education. He commented that science education was once viewed as a detached process; an objective process is now getting more and more connected to society. “Science is a better tool to reach spirituality than religion. Science perceives truth”- remarked the Chief Secretary. He further quoted cosmic spiritual experience as the right direction.
Dr. V P Joy had a quick ride on the campus and took note of various research and other activities progressing in the institution. He also visited the ongoing construction sites and evaluated their development. He wished IIT Palakkad to establish itself as a great center of learning in Kerala.
