Prof. Jagadeesh Bayry's opinions and statements are quoted in a news article on the incidence of autoimmune diseases following COVID-19 (https://www.livescience.com/covid-19-linked-to-40-increase-in-autoimmune-disease-risk-in-huge-study#xenforo-comments-13278). Though there are a large number of reports that describe the incidence of a particular autoimmune disease or their prevalence in a small number of patients’ cohorts, large-scale studies on how COVID-19 might impact the risk of developing new-onset autoimmune diseases has not been done yet. In one of the largest studies implicating a cohort of more than 600, 000 COVID-19 patients from Germany (https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2023.01.25.23285014v1) it has reported that prior COVID-19 could increase the chance of getting an autoimmune attack by 43% compared to non-COVID individuals. Moreover, COVID-19 also increases the risk of getting another autoimmune disease if the patient is already having an autoimmune condition.
