Whirling of Shaft Apparatus

The Edutech TM1001 / TQ - 353709-001 Whirling of Shaft Apparatus is a specialized dynamics demonstration system designed for investigating critical speed phenomena and shaft vibration characteristics in rotating machinery. This equipment features a flexible shaft with adjustable support conditions, variable speed drive mechanism, and displacement measurement instrumentation for observing lateral vibrations. The system enables experimental determination of critical speeds, investigation of shaft deflection patterns at various rotational velocities, and study of dynamic response near resonance conditions. It facilitates visualization of whirling motion, measurement of amplitude-frequency relationships, and understanding of factors affecting shaft stability. The apparatus includes mass attachment provisions for investigating the effect of disk position and unbalance, along with safety features for controlled operation through critical speed ranges. This educational tool provides essential understanding of rotor dynamics principles, demonstrating the importance of critical speed considerations in rotating machinery design and operation.
