Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA)

Vision: Transformational change in rural development processes by leveraging knowledge institutions to help build the architecture of an Inclusive India.

Mission: To enable higher educational institutions to work with the people of rural India in identifying development challenges and evolving appropriate solutions for accelerating sustainable growth. It also aims to create a virtuous cycle between society and an inclusive academic system by providing knowledge and practices for emerging professions and to upgrade the capabilities of both the public and the private sectors in responding to the development needs of rural India.

UBA at IIT Palakkad: IIT Palakkad has become the Regional Coordinating Institute of UBA for the districts Palakkad, Kozhikode, Kannur, Wayanad and Kasargod in the ​First National Level executive Committee meeting held on 28th Nov 2019. Currently, there are 24 participating institutions in this region under UBA. Since its inception, IIT Palakkad has been trying to connect and coordinate with the participating institutions for supporting their activities in their adopted villages. IIT Palakkad being a responsible participant in UBA activities have selected six villages namely Pudussery West, Pudussery Central, Pudussery East, Vadakarapathy, Elappully-I and Malampuzha-II.​ A UBA Cell is also constituted under the chairmanship of Director IIT Palakkad for the implementation of the program at IIT Palakkad.

IIT Palakkad as a Regional Coordinating Centre as well as a Participating Centre has been proactively involved in the developmental activities of the adopted villages. IIT Palakkad has started working on science awareness and reachability by organizing science lecture series for common people names “Pale blue dot public lecture series”. Along with education, it is also working on renewable energy, water management, waste management, and agriculture. By its continuous intervention through the UBA activities, IIT Palakkad envisages sustainable rural development anchored on its technical knowledge and the betterment of social and economic conditions of the rural areas. You are welcome to participate in the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan in any of the following capacity as per your present status, competence and interest.

National Service Scheme (NSS) IIT Palakkad Chapter

NSS forms part of the extra-curricular activities and many events are regularly organized by NSS volunteers. Campus cleanliness drives and blood donation camps are routinely carried out by the students enrolled under NSS. Creating wealth from waste, the students take up the craft of converting the shredded office papers to fancy products and gift articles. Contributing to the elimination of energy wastage, the students keep vigil and turn off lights and fans when not required.
