Biosketch
I am a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences. As a historian of colonial India, my interdisciplinary research operates at the vital intersection of colonial mental health discourses, famine crises and the Indian indentured labour system. In collaboration with my postdoctoral mentor, Dr. Sudarshan R. Kottai, I have co-authored papers in high-impact, Scopus-indexed, and peer-reviewed journals, including the International Journal of Social Psychiatry (Sage), Geopsychiatry (Elsevier), and the Indian Journal of Medical Ethics; we are also slated to serve as guest editors for an upcoming special issue of History of Psychiatry (SAGE). To transfer our academic scholarship to the wider audience, Dr. Kottai and I co-authored a prominent opinion piece in The Telegraph titled "Scars that survive", which critically examines the intergenerational trauma of colonial indentureship across the Indian diaspora. Prior to my current role, I served as an assistant professor of history at KL University, Andhra Pradesh. My scholarly contributions have been recognised through several prestigious international accolades, including the Global Girmitiya Award (2026); the Tamil Nadu Council for Historical Research Grant (2025-26); a short-term research grant from the Charles Wallace India Trust (CWIT) for archival work in the United Kingdom; and a presentation bursary from the Danish National Research Foundation’s Centre for Privacy Studies at the University of Copenhagen. My achievements have also been featured in the renowned Tamil magazine Thozhi.
