Sat, 6th Jun, 2026 - 06:30 pm

The AICTE-QIP-PG Certificate Programmes on ‘3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing’ organised by the Department of Mechanical Engineering  and on ‘Robotics’ jointly organised by the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Electrical Engineering, were jointly inaugurated at IIT Palakkad. The programmes were intended to improve the capabilities of professionals and faculty members in the emerging areas of 3D printing, Additive Manufacturing, and Robotics. This initiative, supported by AICTE under the Quality Improvement Programme (QIP), reflects a national effort to strengthen academic excellence and promote industry-relevant research across engineering institutions.

The programmes are coordinated through the Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) of IIT Palakkad responsible for organising courses and workshops focused on skill development for students, faculty, and professionals across various disciplines. The session commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Kesavan D., Dean Administration and Course Coordinator for the 3D Printing module. This was followed by the inaugural address by Dr. Athira P., Dean Academics.

Dr. Kanmani Subbu S., Chairperson of CCE, Centre Head for the AICTE QIP PG certificate programme, and Co-Coordinator of the 3D Printing course, introduced the objectives of the Centre and the broader vision of the QIP programme. Dr. Dinesh Setti, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, introduced the Mechanical Engineering department and its facilities relevant to the 3D Printing course. Dr. Jobin Francis, Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering, introduced the Electrical Engineering Department and its facilities relevant to the Robotics course. Dr. Santhakumar Mohan, Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Coordinator of the Robotics programme, gave an overview of the Robotics course. The formal event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Sneha Gajbhiye, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering and Co-Coordinator of the Robotics programme.
