Predictions in Ungauged Basins: An approach for regionalization of hydrological models

Title: Predictions in Ungauged Basins: An approach for regionalization of hydrological models

Abstract: Ungauged basins are regions with lack of measured data such as streamflow, meteorological data, water quality data etc. However, proper planning and management of the water resources requires quantification of available water at desired locations. The hydrological predictions are done by using a hydrological model. A direct application of the hydrological models in an ungauged location is not possible due to the lack of data for calibration and validation. Regionalization is one of the most potential approaches for
predictions in ungauged basins. The parameters of hydrological models in an ungauged basin can only be estimated using a regionalization technique. In this talk, I would like to discuss about a regionalization method based on probability distribution functions of the model parameters, which accounts the variability in the catchment characteristics. The effectiveness of this method was analysed in pseudo-ungauged basins using Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model.
