Biosketch
Dr. Arvind Adimoolam (officially Adimoola
m Santosh Arvind) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad. His research lies at the intersection of machine learning, control theory, optimization, robotics, and formal methods, with a particular focus on developing safe and efficient algorithms for autonomous cyber-physical systems. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from VERIMAG, Université Grenoble Alpes, France, where he worked on formal verification of cyber-physical systems. During his doctoral research, he developed the Complex Zonotope, a new set representation for the reachability analysis and verification of hybrid systems. Prior to joining IIT Palakkad, he held postdoctoral research positions at Cornell University, IIT Kanpur, and the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), Kolkata. He obtained his M.S. in Computer Science from IIIT Hyderabad and his B.S.–M.S. degree from IISER Pune, with a specialization in Mathematics.
His current research focuses on learning-based methods for accelerating nonlinear model predictive control for autonomous robots by combining machine learning, optimization, control theory, and formal methods. His long-term research vision is to make real-time optimization scalable for autonomous robots by leveraging data-driven models and learning-based approximations, while preserving the reliability of optimization-based control.

Research
I am currently working on a data-driven approach to reshape optimization search space of real-time optimization for efficient decision making of robots reacting to rapidly changing environments. The approach tackles two challenges in real-time optimization: reducing the number of decision variables and reducing simulation time. Updates on this research will be posted shortly.
My previous research focussed on formal verification of control systems. -
