Prof. Bayry Publishes Two Editorials in Nature Reviews Journals

Prof. Jagadeesh Bayry, Head and Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences and Engineering, has recently published two editorial articles in the journals Nature Reviews Rheumatology and Nature Reviews Cardiology. They provide New Insights into immunotherapy and vaccine-induced autoimmunity.

In the first article published in Nature Reviews Rheumatology, he and Dr. S.V. Retnakumar discusses a newly engineered antibody fragment that could make life-saving immunoglobulin therapy more accessible by delivering similar therapeutic benefits at much smaller doses. In the second article in Nature Reviews Cardiology, he and Dr. J. Rayes outline the mechanisms underlying the development of harmful autoimmune responses that can lead to thrombosis and thrombocytopenia in a small group of individuals who received adenoviral-based COVID-19 vaccines, a condition known as Vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT).
