“Lab Safety is Not an Option, but a Commitment” : Chemistry Laboratory Safety Workshop at  IIT Palakkad

The Department of Chemistry organised the 3rd Chemistry Laboratory Safety workshop for students and research scholars. This day-long program trained students and research scholars in essential lab safety practices through lectures, demonstrations, and a mock drill.

The workshop commenced with a welcome by lab manager Dr. Yuvaraj K., followed by an address from the Head of the Department, Dr.Supratik Sen Mojumdar. Dr.Sushabhan Sadhukhan then delivered a lecture titled “Lab Safety is Not an Option, but a Commitment,” which included case studies, key safety do’s and don’ts, and videos of laboratory accidents. Staff members conducted demonstrations on the use of spill kits, fume hoods, gas cylinders, first aid, and emergency procedures. The EWD team organized a fire extinguisher drill, and participants actively engaged in a safety quiz. The workshop reinforced safe practices, proper equipment handling, and the importance of maintaining a secure laboratory environment.
