An Indian patent has been granted to the research group of Dr. Sreenath Vijayakumar, Associate Professor, EE; Mr. Srikar S., Former MS Scholar, EE, Dr. Narayanan P P, Former PhD Scholar, EE; and Mr. Sreehari V (CEO, Revin Tech Solutions Pvt. Ltd., startup of IIT Palakkad) for their work on ‘A Planar-Coil Variable Reluctance Based Angle Sensor System with PWM Output’.

This patent presents a novel planar coil-based variable reluctance sensing system for full-circle (0°-360°) angle measurement using a linear PWM output proportional to shaft rotation. The technology offers a compact, robust, high-speed, and low-complexity sensing solution that is immune to shaft misalignment and material variations, with potential applications in industrial automation, automotive systems, robotics, and precision motion sensing. This patent is a joint application with Revin Krishi, a startup from IIT Palakkad, highlighting the strong institute-startup collaboration in translating academic research into impactful technological solutions.
