Indian Patent Granted…!
An Indian patent has been granted to the research group of Dr. Santhakumar Mohan, Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Mr. Shivansh Chaudhary, Former Student, Department of Mechanical Engineering, for their work on Multimodal Robot and Method Thereof.
This patent discloses a multimodal robot capable of adapting its locomotion through transformable wheel assemblies. Each wheel can switch between a conventional circular wheel configuration and a spoked configuration using a slider-crank mechanism actuated by DC encoder motors. A synchronized rack-and-pinion system drives both left- and right-hand wheel assemblies simultaneously, ensuring a smooth, coordinated transformation. The robot frame, supported by castor wheels and constructed from aluminum extrusions, houses the control electronics, sensors, and power system for autonomous or semi-autonomous operation. The adaptive wheel design enhances mobility across varied terrain by enabling rapid transitions between rolling and obstacle-climbing modes.
Congratulations to the team…!
