A Technology Licensing Agreement with M/s. Archana Blocks, Rajapalayam for the technology “Carbonatable Fine-Grained Cementitious Matrix with Alternative Binders for Glass Reinforced Composites” has been signed jointly with IIT Palakkad and IIT Madras. The technology was developed by Prof. Ravindra Gettu, Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Madras and Dr. Sunitha K Nayar, Environmental Sciences and Sustainable Engineering Centre, IIT Palakkad and their team as part of a DST SERB project. The invention focuses on developing a fine-grained concrete matrix tailored for durable glass-reinforced concrete (GRC) applications. This novel formulation integrates supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) to reduce carbon emissions, promote high carbonation potential, and achieve low-pH binders for enhanced durability. Designed for both structural and non-structural uses, such as facades, partition walls, and 3D-printed elements, it offers a cost-effective and sustainable solution. The use of glass fibers as reinforcement ensures improved tensile strength, crack resistance, and long-term performance. This breakthrough aims to revolutionize modular construction with lightweight, durable, and eco-friendly composites.

The agreement was signed by Prof. Santhakumar Mohan, Dean ICSR IIT Palakkad; Prof. Manu Santhanam, Dean ICSR IIT Madras; and Ms. Archana Karthik, Proprietor, M/s. Archana Blocks, Rajapalayam along with Prof. Ravindra Gettu, Professor, IIT Madras ; Dr. Sunitha K. Nayar COO GSCOE, IIT Palakkad and Mr. Karthik, CEO M/s. Archana Blocks, Rajapalayam in the presence of Prof. A. Seshadri Sekhar, Director, IIT Palakkad.
