IIT Palakkad Concludes Second Phase of Vocational Training for Attapadi Natives in Agali
In a dedicated effort to enhance employability skills of natives of Attapadi, a group of 22 enthusiastic youth from the community has accomplished the Plumbing Apprentice Programme (PAP) conducted by IIT Palakkad. PAP marked the second phase of the training program offered to the community by the Institute. This 21 day hands -on training program was done in collaboration with the Technology Innovation Foundation (TECHIN) of IIT Palakkad, International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO), Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and Petronet LNG. At the valedictory function held at Attapadi Camp Centre, Agali, Professor A. Seshadri Sekhar, Director of IIT Palakkad, distributed the course completion certificates and plumbing tool kits to the participants.
This time, the program had representation from the Pudur, Agali, and Sholayur sectors of Attappadi. These participants were comprehensively trained as professional plumbers and are equipped to contribute to the focused mission programs on water and sanitation envisioned by state and central governments, such as Jal Jeevan Mission, Amruth 2.0, Swachh Bharath Abhiyan, etc. Each participant received a Do-It-Yourself Plumbing Tool Kit with essential tools to support their plumbing journey.
This curated training programme budgeted at Rs. 2.7 Lakhs per batch was given completely free of cost to the most deserving candidates of Attapadi through ongoing collaborations of IIT Palakkad with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and a CSR initiative of Petronet LNG Limited.
Previously, 20 youths from Mele Aanavyi Ooru in Attapadi underwent hands-on training on basic carpentry, plumbing, welding techniques, computer networking, and IT proficiency. as part of a comprehensive one-month residential program.
IIT Palakkad remains committed to supporting its neighboring community by providing skill development programs. Another batch is anticipated to undergo training at Manarkkad soon.
