IIT Palakkad and IMA Palakkad Organize Workshop on Substance Abuse Awareness

The Unnat Bharat Abhiyan(UBA) Regional Coordinating Institute(RCI) at IIT Palakkad, in collaboration with the Indian Medical Association(IMA) Palakkad branch, successfully conducted a one-day workshop on ‘Substance Abuse Among Youth’ on Sunday, March 2, at the hotel Indraprastha, Palakkad. The workshop, aimed at empowering teachers and students of higher educational institutions with knowledge on substance abuse prevention and intervention, was facilitated by Dr. Venkata Lakshmi Narasimha, Assistant Professor at the Centre for Addiction Medicine(CAM), National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences(NIMHANS), Bengaluru, and Dr. Ramanan Erat, senior psychiatrist and former President of the IMA Palakkad branch.

 

Participants engaged in insightful discussions and interactive sessions focusing on the psychological and social impact of substance abuse, early warning signs, and effective intervention strategies. The facilitators emphasized the crucial role of educators in identifying and addressing substance use among students while highlighting the importance of community awareness in tackling the issue.
