Professor Yuichi Otsuka, from Nagaoka University of Technology in Japan, generously shared his expertise during a presentation on "Fracture and Functionality of HAp Coating for Biomedical Applications." In his engaging discourse with students and faculty members of IIT Palakkad, he delved into the intricate aspects of the mechanical loosening mechanism of the acetabular cup and, also on the standards used to evaluate the interface strength of bioactive Hydroxyapatite (HAp) coatings.

Prof. Otsuka underlined the necessity of developing a film that leverages the principles of fracture mechanics to assess its durability, with the ultimate aim of extending the lifespan of medical hip implants. He emphasized, "The goal is to create a film that uses the concept of fracture mechanics to evaluate its durability and extend the lifespan of medical hip implants."

Following the insightful session, potential avenues for collaboration between IIT Palakkad and Nagaoka University were explored. Additionally, Prof. Otsuka also provided insights to students regarding various scholarship programs, such as MEXT, and the University mentorship program (Mutsumikai) available in Japan. These programs are designed to assist foreign students in mastering the local language, finding accommodation, and ensuring a smooth transition for settling in Japan.
