Empowering Educators: IIT Palakkad organises Science Teachers Workshop
To ensure that science teachers possess an in-depth and updated understanding of the subjects they teach, stay abreast of the latest scientific developments & discoveries, and promote inquiry-based teaching methodologies, IIT Palakkad organised a two-day workshop for Science teachers. This workshop was attended by 21 teachers from Government Higher Secondary Schools in Palakkad, with the support of the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology, and Environment (KSCSTE). Additionally, teachers from Kendriya Vidyalaya and Navodaya Vidyalaya participated through the PM Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) initiative.
The workshop which concluded today was inaugurated by Prof. A Seshadri Sekhar, Director, IIT Palakkad on 6 November 2023. He conveyed, “ Teaching methodologies are changing, and as mentors, it is imperative to remain informed. We cannot always follow conventional teaching approaches, and we should not be carried away by artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). Prof. C Vijayan, Honorary Professor at IIT Palakkad, delved into the "Joy of Science," emphasizing the importance of scientific thinking and the need for innovative approaches to teaching. Prof. Vijayan encouraged teachers to challenge conventional teaching methods and instill a fresh perspective in their students, allowing them to view old concepts in new and exciting ways.
The workshop featured a series of lectures by experts in the fields of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Lab visits, interactive sessions, and panel discussions were also arranged to deliver an enriching experience. The event concluded with remarks from Prof. Jagadeesh Bayry, Dean of Students at IIT Palakkad.
