Electrical Engineering students visited 400/220kV PowerGrid Substation

The Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Palakkad, organized an industrial visit to the PowerGrid Corporation of India Limited 400/220kV Palakkad Substation on September 27, 2025, under the guidance of Dr. Manas Kumar Jena. The visit aimed to provide students with practical exposure to high-voltage transmission operations, covering key areas such as the substation layout, the 400kV and 220kV yards, the 500 MVA transformer, fire-fighting systems, and the Control Room with its SCADA-based monitoring. Students also gained valuable insights into various protection relay schemes used for transformers and feeders, highlighting the importance of grid stability and equipment security. Adhering to all safety protocols, the participants benefited greatly from this informative experience. The department extends sincere gratitude to PowerGrid management and staff for their support. The visit was assisted by Dr. Manas Kumar Jena, Dr. Anirudh Guha, Dr. Arun Rahul S, Mr. Sanil Sharahudeen, and Mr. Sivaseelan.
