Day 8- Science Quest: Big Bang with Physics

Mon, 29th May, 2023 - 06:30 pm

On Day 8 of the science quest, an exciting lineup of activities awaited both junior and senior students. For the senior students, Dr. Prithvi Narayan detailed the engineering marvel behind the construction of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, emphasizing its profound impact on future discoveries in fundamental Physics. Following this, Dr. Amit K Pal delivered a talk on Quantum Technologies, providing an overview of how Quantum Mechanics is poised to revolutionize computing, addressing challenges beyond the capabilities of classical computers.

Meanwhile, the junior students were briefed and taken through the vast Solar System. They were presented with physical models that offered a different perspective from what they typically encounter in textbooks. To further the sessions in an  interestingly lighter way some principles of Physics were introduced through activities and games. This was followed by an interactive "ask me anything" session.

After the fun sessions, all students came together for a combined class led by Dr. Mayarani M, where the significance of scientific temper was discussed, along with applications of science in daily life.

In the afternoon, a few physical phenomena, such as Electricity, Friction, Optics, and Superconductivity, were demonstrated through fun-filled engaging experiments. The day concluded with an insightful session on Astronomy by Dr. Projjwal Banerjee. Students learnt about the scale of the universe and were treated to a fascinating view of the night sky using Stellarium, igniting their curiosity about the celestial realm.
