Biosketch

Vinod A Prasad received his B. Tech. degree in Instrumentation & Control Engg. from University of Calicut, India in 1993 (Second rank in University) and the Master of Engineering (by Research) and Ph.D. degrees from School of Computer Engineering, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore in 2000 and 2004 respectively. He has spent the first 5 years of his career in industry (1993-1998) as an automation engineer at Kirloskar, Bangalore, India, Tata Honeywell, Pune, India, and Shell Singapore. From September 2000 to September 2002, he was a Lecturer in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Singapore Polytechnic, Singapore. He joined as a Lecturer in the School of Computer Engineering, NTU, Singapore in September 2002, became Assistant Professor in December 2004, and Associate Professor (tenured) in August 2010. In October 2017, he joined Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Palakkad, India, as a Professor in Electrical Engineering. He also served as a Visiting Associate Professor in Electrical & Computer Engg. Dept., University of British Columbia, Canada, during June-July 2013. Currently, Vinod is also a Visiting Professor in School of Computer Science and Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

Vinod has won the Nanyang Award for Excellence in Teaching 2009, the highest recognition conferred by NTU to individual faculty for teaching. He has won the Best Lecturer Award of School of Computer Engineering four years consecutively: 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. He was also a nominee of Nanyang Award for Excellence in Teaching 2008. He was nominated for Nanyang Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2016, and also for Nanyang Educator Award in 2016.

Vinod's research interests include digital signal processing, low power, reconfigurable circuits & systems for wireless communications, Brain-Computer Interface and its applications in neurofeedback, neurorehabilitation, neuroprosthetics and assistive technology devices. He has on-going and completed external research grants from various funding agencies - Ministry of Education, Singapore, Ministry of Defence, Singapore, DSO National Laboratories, Singapore, European Aeronautic Defence & Space Company (EADS), Singapore Millennium Foundation, Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and Airbus Group Innovations amounting over S$3 million (=Rupees 15 Crore) as principal investigator (PI). He has published over 230 papers in refereed international journals and international conferences. He has supervised and graduated 14 Ph.D. students and 1 Master of Engineering (By Research) student. He is an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Human-Machine Systems, and Associate Editor of Springer Journal of Circuits, Systems & Signal Processing, Senior Member of IEEE and Track Co-Chair (Brain-Machine Interface Systems) of IEEE Systems, Man & Cybernetics Society. He has also been the Lead Guest Editor/Guest Editor of four journal special issues published by Springer. Vinod has served as the General Chair of 2013 IEEE International Symposium of Electronic System Design, Singapore, General Chair of 2013 IEEE International Conference on Advances in Computing and Communications, Kochi, India, General Chair of 2012 IEEE International Conference on Advances in Computing and Communications, Kochi, India, and Program Chair of 2011 IEEE International Symposium of Electronic System Design, Kochi, India. He has also served as the Co-organizer of the IEEE Brain-Machine Interface Workshop of IEEE Systems, Man and Cybernetics Society in 2014 (San-Diego, USA), 2015 (Hong Kong) and 2016 (Budapest, Hungary). Vinod has served as the Technical Co-Chair of the Brain-Machine Interface Systems Committee which won the award for the Most Active Technical Committee in Human-Machine Systems' of IEEE Systems, Man and Cybernetics Society in two consecutive years - 2016 and 2017.

During his service in NTU, Vinod has served as the Assistant Chair (Students) of School of Computer Science and Engineering, University Senate Member, University Teaching Council Member, University Research Council Member, Coordinator of Hardware & Embedded Systems Research Group, Embedded Systems Track Lead of Curriculum Management Committee, Chair of Faculty Search Committee of the School of Computer Engineering, Chair of Department's Undergraduate Outreach Committee, Team Leader of University's Ph.D. Outreach (India), and Graduate Students' Liaison Faculty-in-Charge of the department.

In IIT Palakkad, Vinod is the Dean of Industry Collaboration, Sponsored Research and International Relations, Professor-in-Charge of Placement, Member of the Senate, Board of Academic Curriculum and Board of Research.
